PWR! Moves Class Support Volunteer(Asheville YMCA)

Description

Overview

Support individuals living with Parkinson’s disease by assisting during our PWR! Moves exercise class. This volunteer role ensures the class environment is safe, organized, and welcoming while participants focus on movement and recovery.

PWR! Moves is a research-informed Parkinson’s wellness program designed to improve neuroplasticity and slow symptom progression. The class emphasizes large, intentional movements that target four key skills often impacted by Parkinson’s:

  • Antigravity extension

  • Weight shifting

  • Axial mobility

  • Transitional movements

Volunteers do not provide medical instruction. Instead, they serve as operational and environmental support to enhance participant experience.

  • Provide light in-class support (retrieving items, adjusting room setup as needed)

  • Ability to stand and move throughout the class

  • Patient, encouraging, and reliable

  • Interested in health, aging, or neuro wellness

  • Comfortable supporting adults living with chronic conditions

Impact

Your presence helps create a safe and empowering environment where participants can maintain mobility, independence, and confidence.
