The Free Community Market is a partnership between MANNA Foodbank and Montmorenci UMC and works to support anyone in the community who is experiencing food insecurity. Each week we serve between 130 and 170 households, distributing 7000+ lbs of food. approximately 40 % of this is Fresh Produce. Meat, bakery and bread, dry goods, and personal care items are also available,
For each market that occurs every Wednesday, there is an AM shift to help prepare for the market and a PM shift to help distribute food.
Volunteers are able to work both shifts if available.
AM Shift: Food Sorting/Packaging: 8:30am-11:30am
PM Shift: Food Distribution: 11:30am-2:30pm (clients are served between 12:00-2:00)
Volunteer Responsibilities:
AM Shift:
- Assistance with on-site setup
- Unloading Food Trucks
- Intake, Parking, Client Care
- There are available training opportunities to assist with grocery / food pickup.
- Unloading food truck and/or packaging boxes/bags
PM Shift:
- Passing out food boxes/bags to community residents
- Assistance with breakdown and clean up
- Leftover transport to ABCCM or other local food pantries (optional)
- Return crates to local Food Lion or Sand Hill Community Garden (optional)

Skills Required:
- Positive customer service skills
- Ability to remain calm during times of crisis
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. (occasionally lifting up to 40 pounds)
- Bending, twisting, stooping
- Comfortable working outside in all weather conditions
Attire:
- Wear clothes that are comfortable and let you move freely.
