Who We Are

The Aquatics Program at the YMCA of Western North Carolina is a mission-driven team focused on water safety, skill development, and community wellness. We serve individuals and families of all ages and backgrounds, using aquatics as a pathway to build confidence, prevent drowning, and promote lifelong health.

Grounded in the YMCA’s core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility, our aquatics staff and volunteers are committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and encouraging environment both in and around the water.

What We Do

We provide a wide range of aquatics programs designed to meet the needs of our community, including:

  • Swim Lessons: Teaching essential water safety and swimming skills to children and adults at all levels
  • Lifeguard & Safety Training: Equipping individuals with the certifications and confidence to respond in emergencies
  • Recreational & Lap Swimming: Offering accessible opportunities for exercise, wellness, and family engagement
  • Youth & Community Programs: Supporting local schools, camps, and outreach initiatives with water-based activities
  • Drowning Prevention Efforts: Expanding access to swim education for underserved populations

Through these programs, we aim to save lives, strengthen community connections, and ensure that everyone—regardless of age or ability—has the opportunity to feel safe and confident in the water.
