The YMCA’s Reach & Rise® program is looking for caring, steady adults to become Group Mentors—and your impact could ripple through a young person’s entire life.

Reach & Rise® is a free, therapeutic group mentoring program for youth ages 6–17. As a mentor, you’ll be paired with another adult to co-lead a small group of 6–8 youth in weekly sessions at our afterschool sites in Asheville or Marion.

Together, you’ll create a space where kids can grow in confidence, build healthy relationships, and begin making choices that support their long-term well-being.

Across 14–16 weeks, mentors help guide conversations and activities that strengthen:

• Self-esteem
• Social and emotional skills
• Decision-making
• School success
• Healthy relationships

What to Expect:
Time Commitment: 2–3 hours per week
Training: 15 hours of supportive, in-depth preparation
Support: Ongoing check-ins and guidance from Program Director, Robin Sersland
Membership Perk: Receive a free YMCA membership while actively mentoring after completing training
Screening & Interview: Helps ensure the best match for you and the youth you'll serve

Training begins in January
After completing training, mentors will begin leading groups mid-February or early March. Robin will personally connect with prospective mentors in January to schedule training times that work best for them.

If you want to give your time, voice, and compassion to something that genuinely matters—this is your moment. Sign up to begin the process, and get ready to help young people see their own possibilities more clearly.
