Hands to Hands: Share Fiber Arts with Afterschool Youth

Do you knit, crochet, sew, quilt, weave, or work with textiles?
The YMCA Afterschool Program at W.D. Williams Elementary is seeking volunteers to lead weekly fiber arts activities for elementary-aged children.

Volunteers will work with small groups of students at the same time each week, guiding them through simple, hands-on fiber arts projects that build creativity, focus, and confidence.

This opportunity is a great fit for:

• Anyone with fiber arts skills who enjoys working with children

What You’ll Do

• Teach basic fiber arts techniques (no formal teaching experience required)

• Support children as they work through projects

• Encourage creativity, patience, and problem-solving

• Serve as a positive, dependable presence for students

Time Commitment

• Once per week, same day and time

• 60–90 minutes per session

• Consistency is important for building relationships and program success
