Volunteer: Support the Piranha Swim Team

Are you passionate about swimming, youth sports, or mentoring young athletes? The Piranha Swim Team Volunteer Program is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience while supporting a positive and competitive swim environment.

Volunteers assist the coaching staff with day-to-day team activities and help create a supportive, encouraging atmosphere for swimmers of all ages and skill levels. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in coaching, leadership, or youth athletics — and a great way to complete community service hours while making a real impact.

These activities will take place at one of our three locations: Asheville YMCA, Reuter YMCA, and Buncombe County Aquatic Center.

Ways You Can Help

Assist coaches during swim practices

Overview

Support individuals living with Parkinson’s disease by assisting during our PWR! Moves exercise class. This volunteer role ensures the class environment is safe, organized, and welcoming while participants focus on movement and recovery.

PWR! Moves is a research-informed Parkinson’s wellness program designed to improve neuroplasticity and slow symptom progression. The class emphasizes large, intentional movements that target four key skills often impacted by Parkinson’s:

Antigravity extension

Weight shifting

Axial mobility

Transitional movements

Volunteers do not provide medical instruction. Instead, they serve as operational and environmental support to enhance participant experience.

Responsibilities

Assist with room set-up and breakdown

Move and arrange equipment (chairs, mats, light fitness equipment)

Provide light in-class support (retrieving items, adjusting room setup as needed)

Offer encouragement and a welcoming presence

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift/move equipment (light to moderate weight)

Ability to stand and move throughout the class

Ideal Volunteer

Patient, encouraging, and reliable

Interested in health, aging, or neuro wellness

Comfortable supporting adults living with chronic conditions
