West Buncombe Afterschool

The West Buncombe Afterschool Program, sponsored by the YMCA, is a safe, supportive, and engaging out-of-school program serving students at West Buncombe Elementary School. Rooted in the YMCA’s mission to nurture youth development, promote healthy living, and foster social responsibility, our program provides families with reliable afterschool care led by trained, caring staff.

We partner closely with the school and the broader community to create an environment where children feel welcomed, supported, and encouraged to grow—academically, socially, and emotionally.

The West Buncombe Afterschool Program offers structured, high-quality programming designed to support students after the school day ends. Each afternoon, participants engage in a balanced mix of activities that may include:

• Homework support and quiet academic time

• Physical activity and recreation to promote healthy habits

• Creative arts, games, and enrichment activities

• Social-emotional learning and character development

• Opportunities to build friendships, confidence, and teamwork skills

Our goal is to give children a positive place to learn, play, and thrive while providing families with peace of mind knowing their child is in a safe, nurturing environment.
