Who We Are

Eblen Charities is a nonprofit organization rooted in Asheville, North Carolina, dedicated to supporting individuals and families facing urgent, real-life challenges.

Founded in 1991 by Joe Eblen, then President of the Biltmore Oil Company, the organization was created to fill a critical gap in community support—helping families in crisis regardless of income, employment status, or insurance coverage.

The organization’s origins trace back to a single moment of need, when a local family was unable to afford the basic costs required to get their child to life-saving medical treatment.

When existing systems fell short, Eblen Charities was born from a simple but powerful question: How do we help families today, not just someday?

What We Do

Eblen Charities provides critical assistance to individuals and families across Western North Carolina who are experiencing financial hardship or unexpected crisis.

Our programs focus on meeting essential needs that, if unmet, can quickly escalate into larger emergencies.

Support areas include:

  • Housing and utility assistance

  • Transportation support

  • Clothing and school supplies

  • Medication and medical-related expenses

  • Emergency support tied to health and family stability

By addressing these needs at the moment they arise, Eblen Charities helps families regain stability, maintain dignity, and focus on long-term well-being.

Our work is community-centered, responsive, and grounded in the belief that access to help should not be limited by income thresholds or technical eligibility.
